Alan Coates was born June 26 1953, in London.

When he is not playing with the Hollies, Alan runs a London-based music
production company - The Voice and Music Company, Ltd. - with his wife.

Alan has played in the bands of artists such as Olivia Newton-John and David
Cassidy. He has also had a few hits with his own band, Broken English. Alan
has been playing with the Hollies since 1981.

Alan also wrote and performed on Allan Clarke's solo album Reasons to
Believe. Alan typically plays either a Fender Stratocaster Custom or a
Lowden LSEI Acoustic guitar as well as providing harmony vocals.

In October 2004 Alan Coates retired from The Hollies after more that 20
years in the band, to concentrate with his wife Kim Coody, on writing and
producing TV themes and advertising commercials from their Voice & Music
Company based in London's Drury Lane.
